This Week’s News: Our phonics focus this week will be Ss (with special lessons on snakes and spiders!). We will use our Browsing Bags for reading and continue to build on our writing skills. Last week we learned to put a period at the end of a sentence. WOW! In Science, we are studying recycling, and in social studies we are discussing problem solving. In Math, we will begin our unit on 2-D shapes. This week for Recipe Friday we will be making "Silly Sandwiches" using various cookie cutters. This Week's News: In Science, we will be learning about fall and squirrels. In Phonics, our focus is Rr, rhyming, and compare and contrast. In Math, we will talk about positions and locations. We will continue to talk about the writing process, and we will learn a fall poem and a fall song. Our Word Wall words for this week: red, blue, like Homework: - Remember to read with your child for 15-20 minutes each night (M-Th). Just a reminder that school will be out for Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 21. In the week leading up to the holiday, the class will be reading books and doing activities about the life of Dr. King.Some news about the next few days

A lot of things are happening in the next few days: On Friday (October 19), Ms. Johnson will be doing the TPRI assessment with the children. The TPRI is a Reading First assessment that provides a comprehensive picture of a student’s Reading/Language Arts development. On Tuesday and Wednesday (October 23-24), Ms. Johnson will be out of the classroom for workshop and training. Miss Richards will be teaching during those two days, so the children will be in good hands. On Wednesday (October 24), report cards will come home with the children. The Gullett Elementary carnival is Saturday, November 3, and we need parent volunteers for the Hair Spray booth! All you need is the ability to show up and spray-paint hair.
